Meet Our Team

Matthew E. Miller, CPA, MBA

Principal

Matt has enjoyed a career in public accounting since 1983. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Accounting from Radford University, Masters in Business Administration from George Mason University and certification in Business Studies from Oxford University.  Matt is the firm’s chief strategist. He is responsible for developing client tax strategies and compliance monitoring, evaluating entity structures and operational efficiencies for business clients, and assisting with building advisory team.

Prior to founding Miller Consulting Group in October 1998, Matt held the position of Chief Financial Officer for a regional building material supply company.  As part of a talented leadership group, Matt managed the financial aspects of the company as it realized significant growth through organic means as well as targeted Merger & Acquisition opportunities.  During that period, Matt developed his conservative approach to growth and fiscal management.  He and his accounting team designed, tested and implemented accounting processes, controls, and procedures which laid a foundation for the company to become a major competitor in their industry.

After leaving the company, Matt served a term as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Matt’s passion in business consulting is strategic planning.  The thrill of planned business execution runs deep in his accounting veins.  A dedicated team player, Matt enjoys collaborative engagements with other like-minded professionals who can survey a situation, develop a solution oriented strategy, and then drive flawless execution.  Be it the opportunity for simple operations planning, a complex tax strategy, a start-up opportunity, or a strategic exit, Matt engages with passion, balance and open mindedness.

Outside of work, Matt and his wife, Peggi, enjoy spending time with their three adult children.  An active volunteer, Matt is the former president of Fairfax Little League (Dominion League) and former treasurer of Robinson High School Athletic Boosters.  He has also spent time behind the microphone announcing high school lacrosse.  Matt currently serves on the Executive Council for the College of Business and Economics at Radford University and is Chair-Elect for the Accounting Advisory Council at George Mason University.  Matt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA).  Matt has recently volunteered to serve on the Professional Ethics Committee of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Occasionally, he finds time to play a round of golf!!!

Sharan Sawhney, CPA

Director of Tax Services

Sharan has been practicing public accounting since graduating from George Mason University in May 2008.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, both from GMU.

Her career began at Miller Consulting Group, LLC as an intern in 2007.  After graduation, Sharan worked as an auditor for Grant Thornton, LLP.  She returned to Miller Consulting Group, LLC as a full time employee in 2009.  Sharan obtained her CPA license in March 2010 and is currently working on her Certified Fraud Examiner designation.

She works primarily on individual income tax returns and tax planning as well as responding to IRS and state tax notices and requests.

In her spare time, Sharan enjoys attending barre, yoga, and Zengo classes.  She also enjoys baking which has earned her the job of being the designated birthday treat baker in the office.  Her treats are amazing!!!

Sharan is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA).  Sharan is currently serving on the Young Accountants Committee.

EMILY IRVING

Tax Associate

Emily is a 2011 graduate of George Mason University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  Prior to graduation, she joined MCG as an intern.  As a full time staff accountant, Emily has developed a broad range of experience and specializes in individual income tax.  She also assists with tax planning and outsourced accounting/bookkeeping services.  Emily enjoys the challenges of the tax world and the knowledge gained from working in the accounting field.

In her free time, Emily loves spending time with her husband, son, and two dogs. She also enjoys playing golf, and has set a goal to get out to play more than once or twice a year.

MANJOT “MANNY” KAUR

Tax Associate

Manny graduated from George Mason University in May 2015 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She was part of the Mason Accounting Society at George Mason University where she gained additional accounting knowledge through informative sessions with professional members of the accounting community. She began her accounting career as an intern at Miller Consulting Group in January 2015. During her internship, Manny worked with the tax department assisting in the preparation of individual income tax return.  Manny joined Miller Consulting Group as a full time staff accountant in June 2015.

In addition to accounting, Manny enjoys running and being outdoors, spending time with her family, and has a list of places she has never been and would like to visit.

She is currently pursuing her Certified Public Accountant designation.  We are wishing Manny the best of luck!  After obtaining her CPA license, she also has plans to return to school to obtain a Masters degree in Taxation.

FRED KRAUSE III

Director of Accounting

Fred has been practicing accounting for more than 30 years and has been with Miller Consulting Group for the last 13 years. He works closely with our clients to design accounting systems, develop internal control procedures, and monitor client compliance. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Fred’s experience includes providing accounting and tax services to a wide range of clients and industries included retail trade, consulting, and government contracting.

MELANIE HOU, CPA, CGMA

Assistant Director of Accounting

Melanie earned a Masters in Accountancy from West Virginia University. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Virginia with more than nine years of experience in public accounting.  She has also earned the designation of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

Melanie joined Miller Consulting Group in the fall of 2015. She specializes in working with small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the areas of accounting, tax planning and compliance services.

SHERYL QUARTERMAN

Director of Operations and Administration

Sheryl has worked at Miller Consulting Group for 14 years.  In addition to keeping our office running smoothly, Sheryl is charged with management of the Human Resource function for our clients. She utilizes all of her contacts and experience to minimize participant benefit frustrations. Sheryl’s knowledge and organization skills are essential in the day-to-day operations of Miller Consulting Group and offers tremendous value to our clients.

KRIS HARRIS

Administrative Assistant

Kris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Lesley University (formerly Lesley College) located in Cambridge, MA.  Her experiences in the field of education and her supportive roles as an Air Force wife, mother of one son and three daughters, and passionate community volunteer have developed a broad skill set that that allows her to provide administrative support to the entire Miller Consulting Group team.

Kris joined Miller Consulting Group in 2006.  After an absence of several years she was very excited to return in 2013.  Her organizational skills, ability to focus, and calm demeanor enable her to be of value in an environment where the details do matter.

Kris and her husband have evolved into enthusiastic fans of volleyball, competitive jump rope, and other sporting events.  Her love of travel, in part, has been realized through transporting her two high school athletes to various competition venues across the nation.  She is very thankful for her iPad/Kindle, which allow her to take her reading library with her wherever she goes.
